Now and then a book comes along that totally speaks to me. This is one of those books! William Joyce is brilliant!
Mr. Morris Lessmore is a man who loves reading and loves books. They're not inanimate. They're real and alive and exciting. It's a magical story.
If I ever get asked to speak somewhere about the magic of books and the importance of story, I will read this book to the crowd....no matter who they are.
Kids love this story because you get caught up in the beauty and fantasy of the stories and books that seem to come alive...and then there's a twist at the end. The kids say, "Wait a minute...isn't that the book we're reading?!"
Sep2023: I took the jacket off the book when I read it today just because it is hard to manage while holding the book up and the kids realized right away that the girl at the end is reading the book that we're holding. "Cool!"
