What I'm Reading This Week

A lot of blogs I read start of Monday with their To Be Read (TBR) list. Here's mine:

I found The Boy Who Met Jesus this summer and had it on hold forever. It finally came and now it's due this week and I can't renew it - so I must get reading quick!

I started The Forgotten Garden in the summer and put it down. Time to finish that one up.

Pride and Prejudice is for book club.

Loser is a book I keep seeing. I have found the title kind of offensive and always put it aside. It was in a package of books I bought to give as gifts for kids. I didn't give that one to anyone. I think I have three copies in my classroom. I decided I should finally read it and figure out what it's about.

The Magic Half is what we're doing as a read aloud in class. Loving it.

I'm Dead At Recess (Neil Crone and Brandon Steen)

This is a funny story all written in rhyming verse. I looked up the author and apparently he is a comedian. His first book, Who Farted, sounds just as funny! Not sure how I'd use it in school though since I usually have to be a little more pious and discourage kids from talking like that. I'm thinking though, maybe poetry Fridays could be a lot of fun with something like that!

Anyway, I'm Dead at Recess is about a boy who accidently hits the school bully with a spit was while trying to aim it at his teacher. Through a strange twist of events everything ends up okay....you have to read it.

We read this book on Tumblebooks. I searched for it on the Calgary Public Library website but they don't have it. Then when I googled it I also couldn't find it. Made me wonder if it is only on Tumblebooks. Hmmm!

Mr. Popper's Penguins

I listened to this story on book CD. It really is quite funny. There is a good summary of the story here. Apparently they have also made a movie out of it. (Why? Why? Why does that always happen?!Sometimes I wish they wouldn't make movies out of books...but it seems the way all the great ones go!)
